On the 15th of August, Cristian Ruiz and Gustavo Herrera, an indigenous (Mangue-Chorotega tribe) couple from Masaya, Nicaragua, were cowardly assaulted by five men. Cristian perished due to the severity of their wounds. Gustavo Herrera, their partner of over thirty years, is not only a widower but is also facing a process of emotional, physical, and financial recovery. Thusly, we appeal to the cross-border care and solidarity of the international LGBTIQ2S+ community in supporting Gustavo through these hard times.

In Gustavo’s words:

"I would like to thank everyone for sharing these difficult times in my life. For the unconditional support, I can count on God’s presence to strengthen me and survive the pain I carry in my spirit. Cristian was torn away from me and with him, the happiness in my life and am now on my path to healing. On my part I will do what’s possible to keep their memory and their cultural contributions alive for their beloved Masaya and the culture of Nicaragua. I send forth a kiss and a greeting, thank you for helping me in seeking the light for Cristian’s memory at the end of their journey."

The funds collected will be allocated as followed:

***Any extra amount of money collected will go directly to support Gustavo’s legal efforts to bring justice to the crime committed.

This campaign in organized by a group of mutual volunteers and not a registered organization, myself Gabriel Perez will be retrieving the GoFundMe donations and sending them through Western Union to Nicaragua so that it can be retrieved by Gustavo.

El pasado 15 de agosto, Cristian Ruiz y Gustavo Herrera, pareja indígena Mangue-Chorotega de la ciudad de Masaya (Nicaragua), fueron cobardemente agredidos por cinco individuos. Cristian pereció debido a la severidad de las heridas. Gustavo Herrera, su pareja por más de 30 años, no sólo ha quedado viudo sino que se enfrenta a un proceso de recuperación emocional, física y financiera. Ergo, apelamos al cariño y a la solidaridad transfronteriza de la comunidad LGBTIQ2S+ internacional para poder apoyar a Gustavo en estos tiempos.

En palabras de Gustavo:

"Quisiera agradecer a todos por compartir conmigo estos momentos difíciles de mi vida. Por el apoyo incondicional, yo cuento con la presencia de Dios para fortalecerme y así sobrevivir el dolor que llevo en mi espíritu. Cristian fue arrancado de mi y con él, la

felicidad en mi vida y ahora me encuentro en el camino de sanación. De mi parte haré lo posible para mantener viva su memoria y su aporte cultural a su amada Masaya y la

cultura de Nicaragua. Les envío un beso y saludo, gracias por ayudarme a que la

memoria de Cristian encuentre la luz al final de su camino."
