Dajaun's Fight Through Soft Tissue Sarcoma

Hello, my name is Cathleen Oliver. I am raising funds for my Best Friend’s family, Stephanie Caldwell.

3 weeks ago, Stephanie’s 16 year old son, Dajaun, complained of lower abdominal pain. Of course with teenagers, we as mothers, think maybe it is just something minor such as having to move their bowels. So Stephanie medicated him for just that. But this intermittent pain lasted for 2 weeks, until one morning before school, Dajaun was slouched over in excruciating pain. At this time, Stephanie immediately transported Dajaun to be evaluated at UPMC EAST. A CT scan and abdominal X-ray were performed. Results came back with a 9.0 cm mass growing in Dajaun’s abdomen. It was then that the doctors decided to immediately transfer him via ambulance to UPMC Childrens Hospital for further evaluation. So once again, multiple tests were performed including CT of the chest and biopsy of the mass growing in his abdomen. Doctors found even more masses on Dajaun’s lungs. 3 to be exact. Dajaun was sent home with pain medication awaiting biopsy results of the abdominal mass and a plan of care evaluation in the next week. During this time at home, the pain medicine stopped working as Dajaun continued to be in excruciating pain. Stephanie transported him back to Childrens Hospital where they found that he developed a fever. Other tests were done including blood cultures, that were negative. During the doctors further investigation, fluid was seen accumulating in his abdomen. A desicion was made to do what is called a paracentesis to remove the excess fluid. The fluid tested positive for infection. Dajaun continues to be admitted at Childrens Hospital on IV antibiotics and IV Morphine every 3 hours for his pain.

It is with devastating news that we announce that my Best Friend’s son, Dajaun Caldwell, has been diagnosed with a cancer called soft tissue sarcoma. His first chemotherapy treatment was on Friday, November 10th.

As with any Mother, my Best Friend, Stephanie, will NOT leave his side while he is in the hospital. She has been out of work since he has been diagnosed. This all happened so fast within a 3 week period. We do not know when Dajaun will be discharged from the hospital nor do we know when Stephanie will be able to go back to work. During this time, I am asking for financial support for my Best Friends family. Any help will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
