TERREWODE Organization
My name is Dang Duong, and I'll be going to Kampala, Uganda for a Social Entrepreneurship Internship to help women with Obstetrics Fistula, and I'm asking help through gofundme to help me fund raise me to this wonderful experience.
Background about Uganda Internship
Ugandan women with obstetrics fistula have lived with this issue that has caused them to be shunned from their own community. Through TERREWODE, a grassroots, women’s health and rights organization fighting to end obstetric fistula in Uganda, the organization is able to develop a business model to help these women with obstetrics fistula. By educating Ugandan women with marketing, business strategies, branding, they are able to be their own female entrepreneurs in creating a business through handicrafts to fund for their obstetrics fistula operations. With the addition of the early childhood education of preventative care, TERREWODE is able to empower young girls through education in preventing obstetrics fistula. Additionally, the organization is aiming to develop sustainable, locally-sourced reusable diapers for Ugandan women that live with obstetrics fistula. We, faculty OSU-led team, interact with all these mediums to empower Ugandan women and support the cause to end obstetric fistula in Uganda.
My Side Project
Through all these mediums we collaborate with TERREWODE, my project to tell a story behind the handicrafts made by Ugandan women is to spread the awareness of the efforts to end obstetrics fistula. I want to be an advocate to empower Ugandan women to enter into entrepreneurial roles to be strong independent leaders. I want to see Ugandan women who have survived obstetrics fistula be role models and voices for others that have obstetrics fistula. This will potentially convince Ugandan tribes to accept these individuals back into the community.
Why Do I Want to do This
· Provide me strategies, mentalities, and environment knowledge of social entrepreneurship
· Enhance my knowledge of cultural competency and integration of community problems with community solutions without much assimilation of knowledge
· Understand that ideas can become tangible when implementing in a sustainable effort through projects and collaborating with the director of the organization
Giving Thanks
I'm truly grateful for all the donations if you can! Any donations will help.
Thank you so much! You are truly appreciated for your donations
