Darcy Beaven-Duncan Australian Deaf Rugby Tour South Africa

Hi Rugby Community,

Devonport Rugby Club senior player Darcy has been selected to represent Australia in the Australian Deaf Rugby side. Darcy has been selected as part of a 16-person squad touring South Africa from 01/08/2024 to 10/08/2024.

Darcy joined the Devonport Rugby club as a junior 4 years ago and during that time he has represented Tasmania in the U18 state team, he was part of the NW Bulls U18 side which won the U18 State Championships in 2023 and currently sits on the club's committee and is a fantastic volunteer. Outside of Rugby Darcy is a dedicated Scout leader who has achieved great things and is a wonderful contributor and mentor in our community.

Earlier this year Darcy travelled to Sydney for the Australian Deaf Rugby trials. In true Darcy fashion for those who know him well, no one knew what he was up to. A quiet achiever he funded his travels to trial without a word in pursuit of an opportunity of a lifetime and we are so proud he did.

While this is a fantastic opportunity, there are huge costs that come with being part of the team. Not just for the tour to South Africa but all their travel to get to squad training sessions are self-funded with all squad training sessions on the mainland. Australian Deaf Rugby do a fantastic job of raising funds for their players and we would love your support in helping Darcy along the way.

The rugby club is asking the greater Tasmanian Rugby Community to get behind Darcy and this great opportunity he has to represent not just Australia, but Rugby in Tasmania and the wonderful opportunities Rugby can provide people in all walks of life.
