Hello everyone,
Few days ago I let everyone know that our Subdeacon David fell asleep into God. The Orthodox community is trying to arrange his funerals, in the circumstances that Judith, his beloved wife is in hospital, too. We are thinking at David dedication for others, and consider that is time for us to give him back a Christian departure. Please help us to collect 2000 to be able to organize an Orthodox Funaral for Subdeacon David.
Who was Subdeacon David?
David became Orthodox in the late 1980's under the Sourozh diocese (Moscow Patriarchate). After the Romanian revolution he made several visits to that country, helping to install plumbing in orphanages. He was also known at Paserea monastery, near Bucharest. He and his wife, Judith, also made many friendships in Romania, including the iconographer, Simona Tudor (who made the icons for the iconostasis at St Dunstan's.)
David served as Reader in Cornwall and, eventually, at St Edward's, Athelhampton. He then assisted the new mission that began in Poole, coming up as often he could from his home in Cornwall. He was elevated to the office of Subdeacon by Metropolitan Silouan but his declining health meant that his visits were less frequent. When he went into hospital recently at Redruth, Fr Chrysostom was able to bring him the Holy Gifts. In his last days he received the Last rites from Fr Nikitas of the Thyateira Archdiocese. He fell asleep in the Lord on 23rd September. Memory Eternal!
I want to add just: David was one of the most humble people which I ever met.
Christ is risen!
