Dean Hurford was 75 when he passed away unexpectedly. Dean was a resident of Pennhurst from 1954 until 1982. Since that time, Dean has been supported by Kelsch Associates.
Those who knew Dean described him as a polite, congenial gentleman with a great personality. He had a wonderful sense of humor; a true jokester. Dean was funny and would tell you what he thought in no uncertain terms. Dean was a caring, loving, and compassionate man. He was a loyal friend. Dean was very kind. He had a keen judge of character and his insight into people and situations was always interesting and humorous. Dean was very resilient and had a quiet strength about him. He was very independent and proud; a strong self-advocate.
Dean was loved and respected by many. He was known to many in the community as the man who sat outside in his wheelchair, smoking cigarettes while he watched the traffic go by. He loved to sit outside. He worked at Handi-crafters until his retirement in 2015. Dean enjoyed wrestling, flea markets, festivals, fairs, and fishing. Dean liked to travel and go camping. He had a love for dogs, especially small dogs that he could hold. Dean loved the musical stylings of Johnny Cash and Elvis, especially when Elvis sang gospel music.
Dean touched the hearts of many. He was magnetic. He leaves behind many friends, his Kelsch family, and countless others who supported and cared about him. Sadly, Dean did not have much in the form of monetary resources. His team seeks to raise enough money to provide Dean with a proper funeral service and to cover the costs associated with final arrangements. Dean's final arrangements are being handled by Shalkop, Grace and Strunk in Spring City, PA.
