Dee Jackson Needs A Home
Donation protected
Dee Jackson grooms dogs. We became friends over our shared love of animals and gardening. She is one of the kindest people I've ever met. Dee lives in a trailer home park in Thousand Oaks. Recently when I went to visit Dee I noticed all the other homes were gone and Dee was the only one left. I asked her where everyone had gone. She told me the landlord had sold the property and she was going to have to move.
I asked her where she would go.
Dee told me she wasn't sure what she might do -- she might become homeless.
We just can't let that happen and we need your help to get Dee a new home.
Dee has lived in her trailer for over 35 years. She is now 72 years old and lives on her modest social security income and income from her dog grooming business. Her current rent is $600 and her trailer is too old and too damaged to move. Dee has two small dogs and a parrot named Joey.
As you know, rents are so high that even with the small settlement from the landlord it won't be enough to keep her from running out of money soon. Rent in our area is at least $2000 a month, which is not feasible. Dee needs to stay in the community where her friends and career are based.
We see so many people going through hard times, especially our seniors, but this is a tragedy we can prevent.
Please help me get Dee into a new home.
Dee is on several waiting lists for low-income senior housing but the lists are long and the rents are still high ($1200+ a month). Buying a mobile home is a more economical long-term solution.
We will use funds raised to buy her a mobile home so she can groom dogs, garden and draw (she does custom dog portraits). We'd buy the mobile home and Dee would cover the monthly land rental (approx $700/month).
I am truly grateful for your kindness, generosity and consideration.
