We are so deeply saddened by the unexpected death of our son, brother, uncle, father, and friend Derral Nelson. Derral was such a loving person and unfortunately suffered a massive heart attack while doing one of the things he loved, playing basketball. Derral fought hard to regain his strength and made some amazing strides to regain his strength. He was so strong that he was able to make eye contact with family, squeeze our hands and move a bit on command. We so looked forward to the day he would come home and continue to regain his full strength and capacity. Through it all we trusted God and leaned on him for our strength in the darkest of times. Through physical therapy wins and through occupational therapy strides pneumonia settled into Derral’s lungs. He was started on medication to help him move air but unfortunately, he simply wasn’t strong enough to rid his lungs of the fluid and passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Our family is devastated as we are continuing to mourn the loss of Derral’s dad who also passed away suddenly in 2021.
As we prepare to make final arrangements, there are so many expenses that need to be covered. With the unexpected timing of Derral’s departure from our physical presence we simply are not financially equipped to cover all costs. We ask that you help us in any way you can as we prepare to have Derral’s final arrangements in his hometown of Detroit, MI. All donation amounts help the family accomplish this $10,000 goal.
