Dr. Emmet A Dennis Sr. Memorial Fund

 

 

Dr. Emmet A Dennis Sr. passed after a long battle with cancer on March 6, 2022 at 2:44 PM.

 

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Dr. Emmet A Dennis Sr. Memorial Fund for organizations and institutions here and in his beloved home Liberia that Dr. Dennis advocated so tirelessly for.

 

A distinguished scientist and academic, Dr. Dennis served as President of the University of Liberia, Dean of University College at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA), and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Tubman University, among other professional assignments. He was also a member of the inaugural Board of Directors of Liberia's National Public Health Institute.

 

His outstanding service was recognized internationally and nationally. Cuttington University named its College of Natural Sciences in his honor. Liberian scholars of scientific studies launched in 2018 an annual science conference named the Emmet A. Dennis National Scientific Conference.

Dr. Dennis was the founding Director of the Liberian Institute for Biomedical Research (LIBR), a World Health Organization Collaborating Unit. The laboratory building at LIBR is dedicated to him.

 

Dr. Dennis held the faculty rank as Professor I, Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Professor Dennis has served as Vice Chair for Academic Affairs of the large Department of Biological Sciences, Associate Provost for Academic Advancement of the Rutgers New Brunswick Campus, Dean of Rutgers University College, Rutgers – New Brunswick, Rutgers University Vice President for Student Affairs for all Rutgers geographic campuses (50,000+ students).

 

Professor Dennis also served as Co-Director of the highly competitive Bachelors/Medical Degree Programs between Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Jersey Medical School, and New Jersey Dental School. He was also Director of the Office for Diversity and Academic Success in Sciences – an 800 student academic support and enrichment program for underrepresented populations.

 

At its open deliberation on February 26, 2009, the Board of Governors of Rutgers University named Dr. Emmet A. Dennis as Rutgers University Distinguished Service Professor for the many contributions he has made to that University over the years in his various positions and capacities.

 

Finally, Dr. Dennis was awarded the additional title of University Professor, a rank reserved for the most distinguished Rutgers Professor, which is only awarded to full professors who have distinguished themselves. (emmetdennisnationalscientificconference.com)
