Dr. Campbell Lupus/RA Fund-Standing up to MetLife

Donation protected
Dr. Nicole Campbell is the 76th Black Woman to earn her PhD in Physics in the United States. Her thesis entitled Climate Classification Preprocessing Algorithm  was a culmination of her research in developing her CPA multi-sensor data mining algorithm to provide key preprocessing figures and graphs necessary to climate research.  She won multiple awards  including Golden Torch Award as NSBE's Graduate Student of the Year award . However, her career from University of Michigan to Raytheon abruptly ended when she was diagnosed with Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Even after receiving this severe and catastrophic blow to her career, with the little strength she has, she has been volunteering to teach young men and women about choosing science careers and helping tutor some of them to have the brilliant scientist careers she knows they are capable of obtaining.

She has started needing transfusions and rides to doctor offices. So, her family wanted her to move closer. They helped her move. However, MetLife pounced on this move to declare her diagnosis as no longer valid and to redo all her paperwork and took away her Long-term Disability Insurance benefits which she has received since 2014 due to the severity of her medical condition. This is what MetLife is known to have done in the past to others:

(1) MetLife not paying their workers who were working on Long Term Disability insurance  - so do their workers have time to do the job they need to do?
(2) MetLife denied this woman her benefits and this happens more than one might imagine and then these people denied benefits are encouraged to go onto government programs.

What Dr. Nicole Campbell needs?

She needs to pay her bills, especially her apartment rent, food and basic livelihood, medications, doctor office visits, medical bills, and lawyer bills. Specially, she needs three to six months for apartment rent, utilities, food, basic livelihood, medications, doctor office visits (for example, a rheumatologist charged her $400 for one visit and this does not include hematologist, etc.), and medical bills while the lawyer gets the MetLife insurance back. She also needs funds to pay the lawyers.

These funds will help Dr. Campbell get the insurance she paid for as well as help MetLife to remember that they should put forth a good faith effort to fulfill their legal agreement. It will take a while for the legal system to work, but we can help them move faster.

Any excess funds will be donated to the Lupus Foundation and all donors will receive a summary of how funds were spent, upon request and contact information given.

Please share this story, even if you do not have the funds yourself to help Dr. Nicole Campbell.
