One of the most important elections ever is just around the corner, and I am flying the flag for Newcastle Central and West as an independent. I spent my early days working as a journalist in Newcastle living in Leazes Terrace in the shadow of our great football club. I know the problems facing our city, and I also know that the solutions won’t be found with the London-centric Conservatives or this version of the Labour Party.
Please get behind me to smash the two-party system that has put us on a never-ending hamster wheel of political insanity. I am a tireless fighter of women's rights, Palestinian rights and a peace activist who wants to live in a world where we're all first. I will put these skills to giving you a voice in Westminster, uncompromised by the demands of sell-out party leaders who don’t have a clue about the realities of life for people north of the M25.
I will use my voice to fight to protect our beloved NHS, create jobs and opportunities for all, tackle poverty and deprivation and the crime and anti-social behaviour that is the inevitable consequence of this. We are constantly told there's no magic money tree, but the UK Government still finds money to bomb children in faraway places like Gaza and the war in Ukraine when that money could be used to lift our own children out of poverty. As my old friend, the late Tony Benn, once said: "If we can find the money to kill people, we can find the money to help people."
And I can’t do this without your help and your votes. I understand that money is tight and I’m not seeking mega bucks. If everyone who has liked my campaign so far threw in a fiver, I would reach my total by the end of the week. If you can help me get a fighting fund, I know I can fight an effective campaign that will deliver a voice for this city.
This fundraiser has been set up by the campaign team for Yvonne Ridley, Newcastle Unity Group Limited, 44 West Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 9PY. All monies raised will be given to Yvonne Ridley’s campaign fund, to be used only for her campaign expenses for the Parliamentary election in accordance with Electoral Commission rules.
