Life feels strange when a woman is more interested in new power wheelchair technology than diamonds or shoes...I was born in Detroit so all things "motor" have a strong appeal. On MEDICAID we are thankfully allowed a new set of wheels every 5 years. I am so grateful as a power wheelchair retail can run upwards of $28,000.
I actually have loved my ride and have put many, many adventuresome miles on it with my dog Emma as prow of my ship. We go fast.
Technology has rocketed forward in the past 5 years and today there are features which would enhance the quality of my life multi-fold by elevating the seat of the chair and tilting me forward making transferring out of my chair a breeze and preventing falls which seem to be happening more regularly.

During these 18 years of living with MS the most startling thing I have learned is that independence is not really the holy grail I thought it was. Granted, I excelled in it; a five star independent gal seldom needing anyone. But that right there is the thing: not needing anyone is a dry and lonely affair. It is INTER-DEPENDENCE I now value most. I'm an innocent still in the practice of it but that is why I am here today. I need the ballast of YOU to thrive.
