Help Nico Get Gender Affirming Surgery

Hi my name is Nico, I’m a non binary trans masculine person who is also an aspiring solicitor who is looking to raise funds for gender affirming surgery.

From a young age, I knew I was different and wasn’t like other girls, I liked the stereotypical boys things and thought maybe I was a tomboy and that was that. But it was deeper than that, when my mum put me in dresses when I was younger I screamed to take it off, I was always happy in shorts and a football shirt.

Things got worse as I went through puberty, I didn’t understand why I was going through this and asking my mum what was going on. Fast forward years of school wanting to fit in but knowing you aren’t like other girls wanting to be like one of the boys but not being able to.

After I finished school I was more comfortable showing signs of my true self but it wasn’t till I was 18/19 that I decided I was going to cut my hair short because I wanted to, after that I starting presenting myself more masculine and feeling more happy. I remember looking online for what it meant about not being happy in yourself and feeling like you were born in the wrong body and that was when I realised I was transgender

I was referred to the Gender Identity Clinic in London in 2018 when I was 21 and in 2021 had my first appointment and this year had my second one. It has been a long road and a road that due to the wait times is getting longer. I’m nearly 28 and if I wait to have top surgery on the NHS, I will be 32 and I know I cannot wait that long for my mental and physical health, I have made the choice to go private.

My goal is to be able to have top surgery privately in the UK by the end of next year (2024) so I can live in a body I'm comfortable in for the first time. The funds for this will be used for top surgery, for the consultation and surgery and for a place to stay before and after surgery.
