Eddie’s medical bills & expenses

It is with our greatest sorrow that we share Eddie McKinnon has led his last horse. Eddie has been a loved member of the Charlotte Equestrian community for over 35 years where he has served horses, owners and boarders at Mesimer Stables and Gabel Acres. Throughout his years Eddie has taken care of hundreds of horses and been a loved barn figure by thousands of owners, boarders, and riders! On Wednesday, April 24th, Eddie was unfortunately severely injured by a young horse while on the job. After being brought to the hospital Eddie underwent surgery to place 4 metal rods in his leg and traction. On April 30th, Eddie underwent another procedure to address the broken tibia, patella, and knee reconstruction. Eddie is looking at an 8 week recovery, at least, and also intense physical therapy. As anyone is the horse world knows there are no days off; we show up in hurricanes, freezing to extremely hot temperatures, holidays and everything else in between. Another downfall to the horse industry is there are rarely positions that offer health insurance, disability coverage and paid holidays. We are asking for donations, 100% will go directly to Eddie and his family in this unexpectedly tragic time. Eddie has taken care of so many for decades and now it is our turn to do the same for him! Any and all donations are greatly appreciated as they will go towards these astronomical medical bills, lost wages and daily basics such as groceries. We are hoping by raising funds for Eddie that he will be able to focus 100% of his energy on resting and making as much of a full recovery as possible. We ask that you at least have Eddie in your prayers and thoughts for a speedy and uncomplicated recovery and thank you to all who choose to support such an outstanding individual in a time of need!
