Memorial Service for Ernesto Aquino

Dear friends and family,

We have set up this GoFundMe to help with the cremation and memorial expenses for Ernesto Aquino.

In 2010, Ernesto underwent surgery to remove a tumor from his brain and during his surgery he suffered a stroke. He also suffered from dementia. Due to his dementia, his cognitive function wasn’t 100% but even in his final days he didn’t forget the faces and names of his family. He had been living at the Minoru Residence long-term care facility since 2012. In the weeks leading up to his death, his health had seen a significant decline and on May 28, 2024, Ernesto unfortunately succumbed to his illnesses.

Ernesto did not have any children but he leaves behind three sisters, one brother, 13 nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews. His youngest brother, Romeo, passed away unexpectedly in February this year. Ernesto was unable to attend Romeo’s memorial due to his health and very limited mobility. His brother, Diosdado, passed away in the Philippines in 1988.

Ernesto was forced into retirement after his surgery in 2010. Most of his pension went directly to covering his expenses for living at the care facility. Unfortunately, Ernesto did not have any life insurance or savings and that is why we are reaching out to the community to ask for your help. Any contributions, no matter the amount, would be greatly and deeply appreciated. It will hopefully aid in alleviating a little bit of the stress and family’s financial burden. All expenses will go directly to help with the cremation and memorial expenses.

The family is holding a funeral mass on July 21, 2024 at 6:00 pm at the Canadian Martyr Catholic Church located at 5771 Granville Avenue, Richmond, BC. Refreshments will follow after the mass in the church hall from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
