Ernie's Score Hut
Marple Sports Club was very sad to announce the recent passing of its much loved President Ernest 'Ernie' Goulding at the age of 98.
Ernie was a very committed member of the Club who embraced his role as President. He was a founder of the 'Last of the Summer Wine Club' which attended First XI games throughout the cricket season both home and away.
The Club have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support for Ernie from the whole of the community, all with truly heartfelt stories. We've received many suggestions and kind offers of support as to how Marple Sports Club might choose to honour Ernie's memory more permanently.
Ernie was well known for his statistics book, noting down every player's runs, wickets and catches throughout the season. For this reason, the Club believes that building a score hut in his memory is a fitting tribute to commemorate Ernie who was always able to talk through the First XI's performances.
A team of volunteers has already begun producing initial plans and costings for the project with the intention to place the score hut in a location between the existing scoreboard and the nets.
In order to raise the funds for 'Ernie's Score Hut, the Club is embarking upon a fundraising initiative. Our target amount is £5000.00.
