Ethiopian Community Building Repair Fund

Tax deductible
Ethiopian Community Association of Greater Philadelphia Building Repair Fund Raiser

As most of you know, our community center building located at 4400 Chestnut Street in West Philadelphia was purchased in 1999 through generous donations of our members. Since then, our community center has been open and serving the needs of our members and the west Philadelphia community.  However, we have noticed the old age and more recently apparent structural damages that need immediate attention.  For that reason we have closed our center temporarily and have organized a Housing Committee to investigate and recommend a solution.  Additionally, we recently received a Notice of Violation from City of Philadelphia Department of License & Inspection.

The Housing Committee has completed its investigation by conducting engineering review, discussing repair options, and comparing several contractor bids.  Based on their recommendation, the estimated cost to repair the structurally deficient wall on 4400 side and make the building safe to reopen its door is approximately $100,000.  We thank the Housing Committee for their hard work and persistent effort to address this issue in a timely manner.

Because the required expense are beyond the funds the community has in hand, we are organizing this fundraiser to cover the cost of repairs. We are very confident that with the generosity of our members, partners, and those who understand the importance of community organizing, we will raise enough funds to rebuild our community center and reopen to continue making a positive impact.  During our general assembly meeting on Saturday February 6, 2021, we received close to $10,000 in pledges and we are very thankful for those donors.

Among the activities being held at the community building include Amharic language classes, Immigration resource information, community groups,  clubs meetings, computer access and our annual Ethiopian New Year celebration block party.

Any amount you can donate will be appreciated and put to a great cause in our community.
