Toppy Star Guinea Pig Sanctuary Expand our accommodation

Hi my name is Kirsty and I run Toppy Star Guinea Pig Sanctuary in Falkland, Fife Scotland. We currently have 50 resident piggies. We have 2 herds "The Granny pigs" and "The Wheaky Weans" this super herd of 44 need their outside accommodation extended. We need to build another run to join their existing one increasing their floor area from 9 square meters to 18 square meters. This will allow us to take in a few more piggies, I have been asked to take in 9 in the last 2 days and without funds I cannot help.

Why do people choose to rehome to us?

Some folk rehome their piggies really reluctantly due to a change in circumstances outwith their control, ill health, moving home and new landlords wont accept pets, moving abroad and they want to keep in touch and know where and who their piggies will be with for the rest of the piggies lives. We dont rehome we are a sanctuary so we promise that the piggies will stay with us for life, we will keep in touch and send photos and updates when asked. Previous owners can visit too. Sometimes piggies come to us as their friend has passed away and the humans know its not fair to keep a piggy alone. Older ladies join the granny pigs herd and younger ones join the wheaky weans a mixed bunch of ladies of all ages and two neutered boys Woody and Buzz who keep them in check!! We manage to cover feeding and vet bills mostly through donations .....if not its me who covers costs personally. I am self funding unless donations are received.

Every penny counts and is greatly appreciated I will build the run with my daughter to keep costs to a minimum so the money raised will be mainly for materials .... the run from Feelgood UK ...we have 2 already and they are great, rubber matting for under the lino flooring and the lino, We have found this the best surface for keeping clean. I have included a couple of hours pay for someone to come and level the area.....were on a hill so always end up levelling and I cannot do that bit! The runs will be connected by tunnels which I have materials for already so no cost there! I have a very make mend and do attitude so basics only required
