Field 96- Hendriks Jon Taylor Legacy Project
Donation protected
Our son, Hendriks Jon Taylor, passed away this summer at the age of 16. Hendriks lived with a brain tumour which caused him much suffering and he ultimately took his own life. As we mourn the loss of this wonderful young man, we aim to create meaning from tragedy by making a positive impact on our community in a way that honors his memory.
Hendriks loved playing baseball at Living Memorial Park in Summerland, BC, alongside his younger brother, with their dad as the coach. The team's biggest supporters were his mom and older brother. The park, donated to the city post-World War II, stands as a tribute to the young men and women who fought in the Great War - some who returned home and some who did not. It was intended to be a living memorial where community life could thrive, memories could be created, and the sacrifices remembered.
Now, 75 years on, the fields are in desperate need of an overhaul. Our project, The Field 96 Project, named after Hendriks' jersey number, aims to renovate and enhance the premier "Field 2" at Living Memorial Park. We hope that our community will join us in this effort to restore this space to its former glory, continuing to honor the original intent of the memorial park and celebrating Hendriks' life where he was at his happiest.
