Help Fund Leo's Emergency Vet Expenses

My name is Trina Boam. I am organizing this GoFundMe with Melissa Attinger and Jeremy and Chanie Chimienti to benefit our kids, Alexa Fery and Cody Chimienti.

Alexa and Cody ventured out for a New Year’s Day hike with their two dogs, Leo and Remy, at Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach, Oregon. It was a lovely day at the beach that ended in disaster. Leo was running ahead of Alexa and Cody and in an instant, he was gone. Unfortunately, he fell and was found on the rocky beach more than 300 feet below. Alexa and Cody immediately called 9-1-1. Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue and Seaside Fire and Rescue responded and began setting up a rope/pulley system to reach Leo. Unfortunately, they were not successful. The Coast Guard from Astoria responded and their expert rescue swimmer descended to the water where Leo lay injured. The swimmer was able to pick Leo up, placed him in the basket, and airlifted him from the beach. Leo was reunited with Alexa and Cody, who rushed him to the Tanasbourne Veterinary Emergency in Beaverton (which was an hour drive away). Leo was breathing and responsive but clearly in shock and pain. The amazing team at Tanasbourne Veterinary Emergency ran all the tests and scans they could, administered pain medication, and provided IV therapy. After spending his first night in the hospital, doctors determined that he had a pneumothorax which was causing difficulty breathing, pulmonary contusions, several lacerations and bruises, a broken canine tooth, and a broken jaw. Leo will be seeing a canine dentist who will remove the broken tooth and place a wire or plate through the three fractures in his jaw. We don’t yet know how long it will take for his jaw to mend. Leo will be staying a second night in the hospital to ensure his vitals are stable to undergo the surgery and be anesthetized.

Leo is the sweetest three-year-old Golden Retriever. He loves to play Chuck-it, go to the dog park, and play fetch. His party trick is to wait patiently with a ball on his nose until Mom or Dad says “okay!” He’s got the best disposition of any dog we’ve known. Leo is big brother to Remy and can’t wait to feel better so he can go on walks and play with Remy.

Alexa and Cody have been diligently saving for their upcoming wedding. We don’t want them to feel overwhelmed by these unexpected vet expenses. All funds raised in this GoFundMe will go directly to pay for Leo’s hospital and dentist expenses.
