Gathering support for midwife Jamarah Amani

Dear Community,
We are asking for your support in lifting up our beloved Jamarah Amani, the “midwife for justice with a heart for my people” Jamarah recently fractured her foot on a trip to Kenya, and developed a serious medical condition, Deep Vein Thrombosis. She will require surgery on her foot. The healing and recovery will take a minimum of 12 weeks, and she will be unable to work during this time.
Many of us know Jamarah, as the midwife for justice, and have witnessed her fire and passion as a community organizer, activist, visionary, and teacher. Her heart for her people have led her to lead efforts to end shackling of incarcerated pregnant people, to create a safe space and leadership program for pregnant teens, and support circles for many pregnant parents. Jamarah’s voice has amplified the crisis impacting Black birthing mothers, leading to her testimony to the U.N. and the U.S Congress. Her vision has also amplified solutions, such as midwifery, as the founding member of Black Mamas Matter Alliance and the National Black Midwives Alliance.
We have been inspired by her grace as a patient and loving single mother to her 4 lively children- with whom Jamarah credits as her amazing teachers. Jamarah has created community programs to not only nurture her own children’s growth, but the growth of the children in her community.
Now let us join together to support Jamarah during this time of crisis, as she midwifes herself and learns to walk again. Our financial support will support her with medical, childcare, and living expenses as she begins the courageous journey of healing
