GIFT OF SIGHT FOR NEEDY IN GHANA (WEST AFRICA)

Hi Friends-  Want to share a recent development , that, my  father ,  Dr Ravishankar, senior Eye surgeon,  ( who runs a not- for -profit Eye hospital at Mysore, India with my mother Dr Uma Ravishankar ), and Dr Venkat Subramaniam , another  senior Eye surgeon from Bangalore ,-   have received , an invitation , from, a Not- for- profit Eye centre in Ghana in Tema region to visit them, and undertake surgical mission in October of 2023 , to provide non-profit eye care and support in Ghana, and to perform life-changing cataract surgeries, and more, ​to ​ who cannot afford to do so. 

Did you know cataracts are the greatest global cause of reversible blindness, covering almost 55% of blindness cases in Ghana​ .​ An individual's surgery of cataract removal​ can give him/her sight back.

 ​The project is about performing about 100 sight restoring cataract surgeries in about 7 days for poorest of poor. We have provisional dates of 14-22 October during auspicious days of Dasara

My dad, Dr Ravishankar, has volunteered overseas, 22 times in the past 25 years, most times being in Africa, majority of times being in most needy nations in western Africa. He has also served in Asia, Latin America, and on Mercyships one of top American charities serving in Africa.

This project envisages travel of two eye surgeons , stay for 8  days in Accra,Ghana, Performing surgeries all through those days at least for 7 working days.

Budget : out of total budget of 8500 $ , we are looking for support of US $4000 deficit.

Both eye surgeons are donating 10 days of their professional time
