Matthew Calquhoun is a young martial artist who was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. From a very young age Matthew aspired to excel in many forms of martial arts. At times things were not easy for him but he always showed great resolve and determination. He is well known as a person who always went the extra mile, the extra rep and never quit. Matthew's talent and dedication has taken him many places and has earned him many accomplishments. From Jamaica, Columbia, Bahamas, Barbados, the USA, Mexico and among others, Matthew has built a record of success and has showed he is not afraid to take on any challenge and keep on growing. On July 21, 2018 Matthew fought in the Sambo Pan American championships. During the first bout Matthew suffered a major bone break in his hand. Despite being seriously injured, he not only won that fight but every other fight that night, beating a total of 4 opponents and went on to win the gold medal . Matthew already had a previously scheduled mixed martial arts bout in the Bahamas as a co main event on August 3rd, 2018. Matthew honored his previous arrangement and won that fight against a tough competitor from Turkey in the first round. After the fight Matthew got his hand set but Unfortunately due to the type of break that he had it was later discovered that he would need to undergo surgery to correct it. Matthew is left handed and it is his left hand that is broken. Not only does this threaten his career but also his ability in life. Surgeries in Jamaica are cheap but they are not free. Matthew deserves a chance to continue to pursue his dreams. We're asking each and every one of you for your help no matter how small the donation. Every single dollar counts!
