Grant Hileman Documentary - Mental Health Crisis
Donation protected
My brother, Grant Hileman, a hilarious, kind, creative, compassionate soul, faced a tragic end to his life a few short months ago. After seeking and receiving medical help for depression and anxiety for nearly 20 years, Grant (age 27) took his life in our family home on February 1st, 2023 at approximately 7:30 am. Grant, a filmmaker, was a lover of all things film-related, in addition to being a naturally gifted musician. He, like most artists, had dreams of making a difference in the lives of others through his art form and insightful nature. Tragically, Grant's mental health struggles ultimately kept him from fully realizing those dreams.
Grant's tragic death has inspired within our family a sense of urgency to publicly address the rapidly growing mental health crisis by making a documentary film through the lens of Grant’s personal story. I, as Grant’s sister and fellow filmmaker, along with our closest professional filmmaker friends, are collaborating to address this complicated health issue through the power of film. As the director and producer, I plan to shed light on the realities of the mental healthcare system in America, openly exploring the many overlooked, gray areas that often leave people vulnerable to a mental health crisis, even though they have reached out for help. Our team will also explore common mental health issues that are very frequently stigmatized, making it difficult for those who are suffering to feel like it's socially acceptable to seek help. While we intend to share Grant’s personal story, we also plan to share the stories of numerous others, inspiring an ongoing conversation between doctors, patients, parents, friends, families, and countless others who are profoundly affected by mental illness, even if they do not personally suffer from it.
To make this documentary, Grant’s friends, family, and I are now focused on raising money to independently fund the project, with a minimum goal of $20,000. All donations received will go toward location costs, food for crew and interviewees, travel expenses, equipment purchases & rentals, post-production expenses, and the private screening of the documentary in both Oklahoma City, OK and Tulsa, OK. Any donations that exceed the minimum goal will continue to be spent on the creation of the documentary. And if you are unable to donate monetarily, that’s okay! Even a share with a shout-out about the fundraiser on your social media platforms will help us tremendously. Or just spread the word in person by telling people about Grant and the importance of telling his story through this documentary to help others.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT, SO PLEASE READ….
Grant Hileman’s family and I are proud to announce that we are also creating a non-profit organization in honor of Grant called GRANT ME TOMORROW (The Grant Hileman Foundation). We will be using the documentary as a springboard for mental health advocacy and education that will continue through our foundation. This non-profit’s mission will be to increase public awareness about mental health needs and risks, to advocate for robust mental healthcare reform, and to promote proactive suicide prevention. Through education, community outreach, and collaboration, we aim to destigmatize mental illness, to work with various organizations that can help increase access to fast, quality mental health care, and to provide resources & support to those struggling with their mental well-being. The fundraising for GRANT ME TOMORROW will be ongoing within the parameters of the foundation, as we plan to advocate for innovative solutions to mental health problems in honor of our brilliant and beloved Grant, who so desperately needed better solutions and more acute attention to his illness in his own life.
For ongoing, developing updates, please follow the GRANT ME TOMORROW website (still being developed), as well as the GRANT ME TOMORROW social media pages on Instagram and Facebook!
