Handicap accessible bathroom for Charles Carl, Sr

My father-in-law, Charles Carl, Sr is one of the kindest, most patient men I've ever known. He has multiple sclerosis and every day is a challenge, yet he never EVER complains.
Charles has trouble walking and it is difficult for him to maneuver himself in his home, which is not completely wheelchair accessible. He has had several falls this year resulting in a broken right leg in February, a sprained left ankle earlier this month, and a compound fracture in his left leg last week. Because of his recent injuries, walking, and even standing, will be very difficult and he will be a wheelchair user as much as possible.
He is in a rehab program at CAMC General Hospital for the next two weeks, then he will return home to be with his wife, Cindy. In order for him to be able to stay home comfortably and remain as independent as possible, their bathroom will need to be renovated to be handicap accessible.
Estimates for the renovation are averaging at about $11,000. We are hoping to raise enough money to get the bathroom fitted with a wheelchair accessible shower, sink, and a taller toilet that he'll be able to easily access. The entrance may need to be widened to allow him to enter in his wheelchair.
If we are unable to raise the money for the bathroom renovation, he may have to go into a nursing home. We are hoping to keep him home with Cindy so that he retains some sense of normalcy in his life.
