Help Ashley Be Able to Finish Medical School

Hello, friends and supporters,

My name is Ashley, and I'm a medical student at UCLA facing an unexpected and challenging turn of events. I was hoping to start my fourth year of medical school when my father, who is terminally ill, experienced a sudden health decline. Without a second thought, I returned home to be with him, taking a leave of absence from my studies.

Unfortunately, this unplanned leave resulted in the suspension of my financial aid, leaving me with a substantial outstanding tuition balance. While continuing to study and care for my father, I’ve been able to do part-time work and run an Etsy shop. With my saved up money, I’ve been able to lower the balance to around $26,000. Despite multiple attempts to work with the school's financial departments, I was unable to get any help from them. To make matters worse, I was recently informed that I cannot re-enroll in medical school until this debt is resolved.

And now, I face an even greater challenge. My mother passed away on December 5. Her passing was sudden and unexpected, so my family was not prepared mentally, emotionally, or financially. She was the backbone of our family, so it's been difficult for us to try to put together the pieces. This has added on to the stress, and what was expected to be a leave of absence until the beginning of January is being extended a bit longer so I can help my family navigate through this entire process and change.

I'm reaching out to you, my community, for support during this incredibly difficult time. Every dollar contributed will go directly towards my tuition and the fees I owe, helping me return to my studies and complete my final year of medical school. I've explored every avenue available to me, and now I'm turning to the generosity and kindness of friends, family, and compassionate strangers.
