Help Bay B Beautiful become a Non-Profit
Donation protected
Hello, My name is Stephanie and I come to Gofundme looking to push my endeavor Bay B Beautiful, BBB is a Chesapeake Bay Restoration Organization focused on helping the oysters in the bay. I started several years ago at age 15 and now at 18 I hope to push my organization farther and make it an official 5013C Non-Profit organization.
I am currently just looking to have help paying for the attorney and government fees so that BBB can be an official Non- Profit and so it can grow much larger.
At a young age and being around the water I knew I wanted to be part of the change and make the bay cleaner and it has now grown into a passion of mine that has taken a lot of work the past several years to bring BBB to where it is now.
I currently am working 40 plus hours a week, have 2 days a week of route driving, run a Facebook and web page. I am also a member of the Oyster Recovery Partnership, a certified oyster shell collector and I deliver educational and motivational speeches about y organization and the oysters in the bay all from my own finances and as a volunteer. You can see all of what I do over at my Facebook page Bay B Beautiful.
Thank you!
.
This journey really started 5 years ago at age 13 when i quickly became overwhelmed by the deplorable conditions of the Chesapeake Bay, the trash, the cloudy water, the distress of sea life and the endangerment of losing species like rock fish, blue crabs and even the base of the ecosystem, The Bay Oyster.
After realizing that their was so much to do and so many directions I could go to help the bay, I quickly settled into restoring the oyster population in the Chesapeake. A single oysters biggest benefit is filtering water at a rate of 2 gallons an hour 24 hours a day, about 50 gallons per day. And the population is approximately 1-2% of what it was 100 years ago.
It's nothing complicated about what I do. I collect oyster shells from business and events that end up at University of Maryland in Cambridge Maryland's Horn Point lab Hatchery where they attach spat (microscopic baby oysters) to the shells, and then those seeded shells go back into the Chesapeake bay.
I recycle shells so that they don't have to by used shells out of state.
This past year Bay B Beautiful has grown so much and I am struggling with money to keep collect the shells for ORP, But I don't want to stop growing. My first week in January I collected 6.5 buckets (5 Gallon buckets) about 200 pounds for several business in bel air and I now 11 months later have grown to collect over 70 5-Gallon buckets, 2,250 pounds of oyster shells from dozens of business and events. Once BBB is a non-profit I can do fundraising, more speeches and sell merchandise to help with the cost of everything.
In closing, if you have read this far I would like to thank you for your time, if you decided to donate thank you so much and if you cannot donate I challenge you to share this with 10 of your friends so more people can learn about what Bay B Beautiful is doing!
I hope that many of you join me in my journey to help make the Bay B Beautiful, and please check out my Facebook to see more of what I am doing!
