Calib is a 15-year old sophomore student attending Asotin High School in Asotin, Washington. In February 2021, Calib received an unexpected diagnosis of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of cancer that originates in certain types of white blood cells. Calib had been excited to play football in the upcoming season when he noticed a bump around a lymph node in late December 2020. While at his routine sports physical exam in January 2021, Calib and his medical team decided to investigate the bump further, despite having no other significant physical symptoms. In the following 2-3 weeks, Calib and his family were hit with the news that no one ever expects to hear--it's cancer.
Calib and his family moved to the LC Valley in 2012 and have been active in the community ever since. Calib's mother Tanya has been a faithful volunteer at the local community food bank, and his father Jason works as an integral part of the medical system as the Director of Dialysis at Tri-State Health Services in Clarkston, Washington. Calib is also a brother to three siblings and uncle to one niece.
Prognosis for Hodgkin's Lymphoma continues to increase according to Mayo Clinic; however, the amount of treatment needed to reach remission will undoubtedly take an immense mental and physical toll on Calib. Despite all of the unknowns that lie ahead, Calib and his family remain positive and hopeful as they enter into the next phase of kicking Calib's cancer by starting chemotherapy treatments two hours from home in Spokane, Washington--the nearest pediatric cancer treatment center.
Weekly travel between home and hospital, long term out-of-town housing, nourishment for Calib and his family, along with the ongoing medical fees are only a few of the expected expenses coming their way. Additional currently-unforeseen costs are also a certainty as this family gets deeper into kicking Calib's cancer to the curb.
