Help CCHR Recover After Julie's Tragic Passing

Donation protected
We are truly heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our beloved Barn Manager, mother, animal lover, and all around superwoman Julie Macias. She left us while surrounded by her loved ones on April 16th, 2019. Julie leaves behind a bright legacy through her children, Shannon and Chris, and through her incredible devotion, love, and care of the horses and cats of the rescue. She touched so many lives and her passing leaves many mourning her loss. We at California Coastal Horse Rescue will honor her memory and life by continuing to offer rescue, rehabilitation, and refuge to horses in need.

Julie dedicated her life to helping suffering animals and humans alike. She was an amazing woman with a tremendous heart, who regularly organized educational programs with children and the underprivileged in our community. Julie was without a doubt one of the toughest people we had ever encountered. Despite physical impairments and constant pain, she volunteered her entire life to the rescue with unmatched ferocity, 12+ hours a day. She never accepted help - not even when she was dragging heavy feed buckets in one hand, cane in the other. She took it upon herself to be the living, breathing soul of the rescue and so deeply inspired all of us to fearlessly tackle life’s obstacles.

Julie’s work was immeasurable, which means we urgently need to fill the massive void. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit with no salaries paid; meaning Julie devoted her life to the rescue - without pay. Her daughter Shannon, Assistant Barn Manager, has spent her life alongside her mother, caring for her and learning how to manage an animal rescue. Expecting Shannon to carry the weight of this responsibility alone is incredulous, so we fully support her in her decision to continue in her mother’s path - with all of the help we can muster.

Before her passing, we had planned to house both Julie and Shannon on the property in the future. As we are faced with this tragedy, our plans have become an urgent need. We are asking the community to open their hearts in honor of Julie’s legacy to help support our animals, her wonderful children, and the fate of the rescue. We would like to cover the cost of the memorial, something her two young adult children with little family simply cannot do alone. We need to have two tiny houses or similar built on the property for both our Barn Manager and a Groundskeeper. We have a large property and the wonderwoman that was Julie Macias somehow managed to keep everything beautiful, clean, and running smoothly. Now it’s our turn.

To summarize, all donations will go towards:
- Assisting Julie’s children with cremation and funeral costs
- Housing for Shannon and our groundskeeper
- Continued care of our 17 horses, 4 cats, and tortoise

Julie Macias was nothing short of a miracle worker and we are determined to carry on in her honor, with all of your help. Any amount will considerably help us, as well as sharing this everywhere you can. From the volunteers, board members, and friends of the rescue, we wholeheartedly thank you for your support and kindness.
