Help D3 Arts Get Up to Code!

Tax deductible
As some of you may know, on Friday May 19th, D3 Arts’ building at 3632 Morrison Road was served a Cease and Desist notice from the Denver Fire Department for improper zoning for special events. Currently our building is labeled as a Repair Garage instead of a Place of Assembly and will need to make several upgrades to the building in order to remain compliant with the City of Denver.

We are asking for your help to get our space up to code so we can continue to serve the community as an official event space for the months and years to come! Thanks to the help of our friend, Councilwoman Jamie Torres, and the support of the Denver Fire Department we’ve been able to bandaid the issue securing an event permit for the next year to continue our work. Though we are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to keep hosting community gatherings, it is only a temporary issue as we need to change our zoning permit from a garage to an event space.

The funding we are asking for will go towards installing a commercially licensed fire alarm system throughout the building, which is a cost upwards of $15,000. The remaining funds we receive will go to installing a handicap accessible bathroom, installing additional doors and locks as well as upgrading our existing sound system.

If you’re unfamiliar with the work that we do here: D3 Arts has served as a nonprofit focused on community health through arts and culture for over a decade. Our roots in the Westwood neighborhood span forty years and multiple generations of family, friends and voulnteers. We provide programs and services that facilitate recovery for those who need it, a supportive community for those who lack it and growth for all. We offer weekly 12 Step meetings and support groups, art shows that are open to the public and a variety of community events.

We don’t charge local artists or musicians for use of the space so we may compensate our community members for their time and hard work. Profit is never a concern because our goal is to be a true launchpad for the community. We want to be a hub for a bands first performance or an artist’s first exhibition or cultural events in an accessible space in the Denver community. Our programming is always all ages, sober, and free unless otherwise stated as donation based with a heavy focus on giving directly back to the local community.

We’ve been able to do so much in a small space over the years and wish to continue to be able to grow. Part of that growth is now becoming an official gathering place for special events. Please consider donating or spreading the word on social media. You can also support us by continuing to attend upcoming shows, reach out to organize an event and donating or sharing our post. If you’d like to become a volunteer at D3 we have a lot of great opportunities to connect with other members of the community! Your support does not go unnoticed and we are so thankful for our grantors, board members, volunteers and the community leaders that continue to show unwavering support for D3 Arts and the community. Thank you all, we hope to see you soon.
