Help Family After Devastating House Fire
Donation protected
On January 20th, my sister, Sarah (Sa'idah) Costine's home was destroyed from an electrical fire that has now left her and her children homeless. We are all so thankful that the entire family was unharmed and able to get out of the home, but they did so with only the clothes on their backs. The family has lost all photos, clothing, furniture, appliances, linens, electronics, school supplies, computers, lifesaving medicines-- EVERYTHING is gone!
This devastation comes at a time when the family's morale was at its lowest. Sarah has been battling cancer and has recently undergone four surgeries to remove reoccurring tumors. Two weeks ago she had a full hysterectomy and started an even more invasive round of chemo. This, along with continued car troubles, has made it challenging to provide for her family with her line of work. Needless to say, they were already facing such hardship before the fire struck their house.
Sarah is a single mother of six kids, five of whom still reside with their mother and have now lost all their possessions.
Siera-- 22 years old; she helps her mother with the bills and childcare and is an aspiring photographer.
William-- 18 years old; he recently graduated high school, finished basic training, and is joining the Navy in one month to serve his country.
Joseph-- 14 years old; a very bright boy who wants to be a video game designer.
Malachi-- 10 years old; he loves sports and wants to be a basketball player.
Yahya-- Three years old; he loves legos and looks forward to starting preschool soon.
We are so thankful to the fire department who helped get them out of the cold and to the Red Cross for providing financial assistance to get them through the next few days (hotel, food, toiletries, some clothing, etc.). Luckily Sarah does have a renter's policy, but the deductible is $1,000 and the maximum benefit to replace their belongings is only $5,000. This is not nearly enough and they really need some help getting back on their feet.
Their first step is finding a new home (they'll need the first and last month's rent and security deposit) and replacing their belongings, as much as possible. Anything you can do to help my sister and her family is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!
