Help for Ken And Gina Smith
Donation protected
Help Ken and Gina. Ken has recently been diagnosed with a blood disorder cancer called myelofibrosis. It is life threatening but their is a cure. He needs a stem cell transplant. Once a match is found, Hamilton, Ontario is the only place to have it done. It is three hours away from their home in Chatham. Although the procedure is fairly simple compared to other transplants, it still requires inpatient care to get Ken prepared and what he needs afterwards. 2-3 months in Hamilton hospital is what they are told.
Ken has not been able to work due to his health and they do not have health insurance. There are many expenses around this process, and they do not have it. Gina needs to be with him, once they are called to Hamilton. She is the only income and for her to be with him, will increase the burdens financially.
I am their sister in law and can personally see how the added stress of this expense is extremely difficult. I am also a nurse and realize how much people need their support person when having medical treatments, it is absolutely crucial for her to be with him. We don't know exactly when they will go. They have to find his perfect match first, of course.
I am starting this campaign now to help them with expenses now and when the time comes for medicationss, travel, parking, food and accomodations, and other incidentals.
Thank you for considering helping them, every bit helps and even a little will go along way. Please share this message with your contacts too. Also, consider
a donation of your blood for stem cell transplant, perhaps you'll match Ken or someone that is also in desperate need.
