Help Fund James Byron's Eagle Project

Hi, my name is James Byron and I am an Eagle Candidate in Troop 202 in Oakland, CA.

 

For my Eagle project, I am working with the Oakland Police Activities League (PAL) to install five permanent benches around their new fire pit in their camp in Oakland, CA. They use this camp during the summer months to host summer camp for city youth for free. This year they are running the camp from June 10th-August 2nd. Each session hosts approximately 30 youth. The fire pit was recently moved from under the trees (not safe) to the middle of camp in a sandy area which is much safer. 

There are currently some logs which are deteriorating and some stumps which get moved all around and have to be put back in place all the time. The permanent benches will provide a nice area for evening programs as well as for programs during the day.  

This project is important to me because I have gotten to camp at summer camps most of my life and I would love to help other kids have to same memorable experiences.

 

In addition, when the camp is not in session, the benches will be very nice for hikers, bikers and others who pass through this area regularly on their way between Chabot Space and Science Center, Roberts Park and the Redwood Bowl.

 

I am raising funds to pay for the bench kits, redwood heartwood planks, cement and other supplies to complete this project. See below what the bench kits will look like.



I would really like to thank Economy Lumber Piedmont and The Park Catalog for giving me special Eagle Project pricing as well as Mr. Alex Jordan of Blue Pelican Marine for donating the marine grade sealant and paint brushes and my grandparents for donating our lunch. Lastly, I am greatly appreciative of all of the help and time that Mr. Rich Craig and Mr. Jimmy Fong have given me throughout the planning of this project.

Since I am not a registered non-profit organization, the donations cannot be used for tax deductions. Any money raised over the cost of the project will be donated to Oakland PAL.
