Help Fund Logan’s Wheelchair Van!

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Alicia Roeder. I have two sons, Adam and Logan. Adam is on the autism spectrum and Logan has Spina Bifida with a host of other medical complexities. Being a mom to two special needs children tests my strength each day.

Earlier this week, Logan started therapy. He’s been having big big feelings about having Spina Bifida, not being able to walk or stand, and medical trauma following a brain surgery this past Valentine’s Day.

Logan expressed in therapy that he doesn’t want to be “carried or lifted” anymore. He was uncomfortable being smooshed up on top of others and he is just getting to the age (he will be 9 in May) that he needs to continue to increase independence. This step in independence is a dire need. I say this as Logan was making suicidal statements tonight due to his chronic pain, his frustrations with Spina Bifida and deep sadness in regards to being “different”.

My Logan has Been. Through. It. He has had many many many surgeries in his 9 years. Most recently a completely appendicostomy this last summer and a broken shunt replacement on Valentine’s Day. The strength of my son is on another level. However, we’ve hit a bottom.

Logan so badly wants a wheelchair van to get around in. To his multiple therapies, school, doctors, etc. all of those car trips I have to physically lift all 76 pounds of him in and out of the chair and someone get him in and buckled. It might not seem like a big deal- but it’s huge for us.

I started my own business in the last 6 months as a therapist working with folks with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, etc. I have always lived a life and had a career of serving others. My husband doesn’t make a lot. And to be honest…we struggle at times while I’m working to get all this new business stuff sorted out.

I don’t have enough saved for a wheelchair van for Logan for a down payment. I’m asking, even begging at this point, if anyone is able to donate to us to help us get a vehicle for Logan. He will be able to ride safely and comfortably without having the back pain and discomfort of being lifted constantly. And I would be able to save my back from lifting, twisting and trying to get the wheelchair to fit into the back of my vehicle.

I know this is a lot of text. And I know there is so much going on in this world right now. Tragedies. And it’s embarrassing having to do this. So many folks helped Logan with a wheelchair several years ago. And I’ll never forget it. Even if you can’t help us- please keep my baby in your thoughts. He’s not ok right now. Thank you for the consideration in helping our family

*Logan’s health insurance is not able to help with a van. They would assist with a small portion of a conversion but we would still need about 25,000 more for that.

I have emails out to all the grants or programs I could find. We don’t qualify for some due to him having state insurance, even with state we live in not helping us.
