Help Jojo get her mast cell tumor removed
Donation protected
Josephine (Jojo) is a rescue pittie mix! She was adopted from the Kokomo, IN humane society as an adult in September of 2021. She was found as a stray so her history is unknown. She was adopted by me, a third year veterinary student at Purdue University.
Last week, Jojo was diagnosed with a single mast cell tumor which needs to be removed because they can metastasize and cause systemic disease. Mast cells are a type of white blood cell that live in many tissues and play an important role in allergic and hypersensitivity reactions. When irritated they can degranulate causing a release of histamine and other substances that can travel through the bloodstream and cause gastric ulcers and occasionally anaphylactic shock.
For these reason, I need to get the tumor removed as soon as possible and a biopsy submitted to make sure it is a low grade tumor and chemotherapy is not required. The cost of this surgery is anywhere from $2,300- $3,300.
After losing my other dog, Mia to another form of cancer just this April I really can’t bear to lose Josephine too. Any help would be greatly appreciated ❤️
