Meet Karen Neal - If you don't already know her - Karen is 51 with 2 children and a special needs sister that relies on her daily. Karen is a pillar in our community. Karen has a sense of humor and such a positive attitude about life that conquers all. Karen the glue that holds us all together. She is a dear friend who has become family over the last few years, a loving sister and mother, and someone we'd go to the ends of the world to help! She is someone who has helped you and me, even if you never knew it, and helped everyone around her and never asked for anything in return. We were trying to figure out how to help her without her knowing, because if you know Karen, you know how independent she is, how strong she is. But alas, here we are and we are asking for your help. Karen is now in her third battle with cancer and SHE needs your help.
The Backstory
On October 17, 2005 her mother passed from breast cancer.
1st Battle: She got the call while was in a CT scan getting diagnosed with cervical cancer and given 3 months to live and if she did live she would have a colostomy bag is what doctors told her that day. She went through radiation everyday and chemo once a week into late spring 2006 to shrink tumor. She then had surgery to remove rest of it. The risk with surgery is it turns some cancer cells into your bloodstream where it can set up residency somewhere else in the body.
2nd Battle: For Karen, it found it's way to her mouth. In 2007, Karen had major surgery to remove mouth tumors. By end of 2007, she was testing clean or no evidence of disease for cancer.
3rd Battle: She continued to test clean until Jan. 2019 when her dentist found a spot in her mouth and had it biopsied. It was confirmed to be cancer...again. It was a small spot, but there nonetheless.
What's Happening Now?
Karen has spent all of 2019 trying to get into treatment while spot still small but not one hospital would work with her and not one doctor would make an appointment until she had insurance. Karen was able to get insurance during the open enrollment period and it goes into effect in January 2020.
Her small cancer spot has grown and evolved into a very large tumor in her mouth.
How Can You Help?

When Karen's insurance kicks in, then Emory will make her an appointment. Insurance has a yearly deductible of $7,900 then pays 100%. Our goal is to raise at a minimum, $10,000 for Karen to pay her insurance deductible and any travel expenses that she may incur. If we can raise more, it will help her take care of her sister and her living expenses. This treatment is going to be rough and we really need to help her.
Thank you! Any help you can provide by donations or by getting the word out is so appreciated! Share the link in your Facebook!
