Hello, to the Rochester Alternative Fashion community.
We are Tempest and Shaun, the passionate mother-daughter team behind Sweet Poison Cupcake. For nearly 15 years, we've been dedicated to bringing you the most unique and enchanting alternative fashion pieces. Our journey has been deeply intertwined with the heart of Rochester, NY, where we've spent the last decade nestled in The Village Gate.
2024 was set to be a milestone year for us, marking our 10th anniversary.
However, a particularly tough slow season, personal challenges, and our unfortunate inability to participate in Tora-Con have put a damper on our celebrations. Our shop has faced increased overhead costs, dwindling restocks, supply chain issues, a decrease in foot traffic, and lack of new and exciting merchandise, which has resulted in an inability to host the themed events that our community loves.
Sweet Poison Cupcake has always been more than just a store. We pride ourselves on being a safe haven for of the alternative fashion community in Rochester, offering unique and imported pieces from indie designers and boutiques that you won't find anywhere else locally. We've strived to create a space where everyone can find something that speaks to their individuality and style, and feel safe to experiment with that style. We love seeing the creativity of our local community when you dress up for our events like Halloween parties, and our Barbie event last year.
We have been doing everything we can to stay afloat during this challenging period, but we are now at a crossroads and may have to make the difficult decision to close our doors.
We know that times are tough for many, and we deeply appreciate any form of support you can offer. Whether it's following us on social media, sharing our story, or donating to our GoFundMe, every little bit helps and means the world to us.

- Maintaining the shop and covering essential expenses
- Restocking our shelves with the latest and greatest in alternative fashion trends and styles, prioritizing indie businesses and brands
- Carrying extended and inclusive sizing in alternative brands
- Organizing special events, including our much-anticipated 10th anniversary celebration, Halloween parties, and festive Holiday Season gatherings, where we want to host vendors with merchandise that caters to the alternative fashion community
- Beginning to establish an online retail presence
