Hello, my name is Madison Guinn! I'm a 23 year old martial artist out of Houston, Texas.
I have been practicing martial arts for going on 8 years now, and my journey started with high school wrestling. These days I practice/compete in BJJ and have 2 Amateur MMA fights on my record.
My sumo journey began in November 2022, when I decided to Google the next sumo tournament near me out of pure curiosity. I had never competed in sumo - but I had always made jokes that I would one day do a sumo wrestling tournament (as I always want to try every martial art at least once.) To my surprise, there was a tournament in just 2 weeks from my Google search happening right in my hometown of Houston. I took the chance and signed up - and I ended winning the whole female open weight tournament! This opened my eyes to the opportunities available to me in sumo, and I immediately signed up and got the fundraising together to compete in March at the 2023 U.S. Sumo National Championships in Orlando, Florida. Surprisingly enough, I am your 2023 Middleweight Sumo National Champion!
Because of this, I have qualified to represent the USA in Tokyo, Japan for the 2023 World Sumo Championships held in October. While this is an amazing opportunity and the chance of a lifetime - it does not come without roadblocks. Getting to and staying in Japan, as most of you can imagine, is quite expensive. I absolutely cannot and would not be able to make the trip without financial help - so I am starting this fundraiser! The money raised from this fundraiser will go directly towards flights, lodging, meals, travel (train passes) while in tokyo, tournament registration, and any other fees associated with making this trip possible. I am so greatly appreciative of any contribution you can make to help me achieve my goal of becoming your 2023 Middleweight Sumo World Champion. Thanks for reading! ♀️
