Help my mother get the care she needs

Donation protected
Back in March, I created a campaign to help my mother get her medical marijuana licence, which at the time she required in order to let her walk. This campaign was successful, and I'm deeply grateful to everyone who contributed.

However, since then, my mother has had another emergency.

In early May, she had a grand-mal seizure caused by an accidental overdose of metformin, which she was taking as an experimental treatment for her MS, since studies in rats demonstrate that it can repair the myelin sheath. This seizure left her with increased neurological problems, including loss of memory and a regression in her motor skills. As such, my grandmother discontinued her metformin, and for a while she was set to recover.

But on 22 June, two weeks ago as of the time of writing, she had another seizure induced by her resuming metformin intake on her own due to her impaired memory. She was kept in intensive care for a week, and was discharged back home, where she is receiving in-home hospice/palliative care. She is unable to move on her own, unable to feed herself adequately, and unable to clean herself.

However, she is not receiving adequate care due to my family's inability to provide.

My grandmother is ageing, and both my grandmother and I are disabled. Furthermore, I have duties and needs outside home, and I will not be able to provide for her 24/7; for instance, I am aiming to complete my GED and apply to college, I am looking for work, and my mental health requires that I get out of the house more often. Both of us are doing our best to care for her, but we are both limited in our capabilities.

Thus, we need to hire an aide for her who will be able to provide the care she needs.

$4,000 should be enough to hire an aide for one month. This estimate is based off of our experience taking care of my great-grandmother. If we reach our goal of $4,000, we will extend it to $8,000, in order to cover two months of the aide's pay.

Even if we put in all of our effort, we would not be able to take care of her in the way a professional would. She does not have a good prognosis, and these may be her final several weeks on Earth. If she does not get professional care, then she will be living these weeks in constant agony and indignity, suffering from undertreatment. If an emergency happens, we may not be able to react adequately on time.

This is why she needs an aide. My mother needs and deserves the highest level of comfort that is available to us, however modest it is. If you understand this, please donate and pray for her; any and all contributions are appreciated and a mitzvah, and if the total falls short of hiring an aide, it will still go to improving her quality of life and helping our family in this time of trial. Thank you.

UPDATE: Since we have so quickly exceeded our goal of $4,000, enabling us to hire an aide we have updated our goal to $8,000, which will enable us to hire a health aide for two months. If at any point this becomes unfeasible, the money will still go to supporting my mother and making what are likely her last days on earth less painful and hopefully more enjoyable. Thank you all for your support; you have done a mitzvah.
