Help Nurse David!

Hi, my name is Dave Morgan and I'm a Registered MH Nurse in Wales.

I qualified in 2019 from Birmingham City University and started work with the Welsh Ambulance Service right when COVID-19 struck.

My first six months as a newly qualified nurse was working on the NHS111 service. At the beginning it would be questions regarding 'Wuhan and international travel' but as it progressed more and more people called with severe breathing issues. I heard hundreds of calls from patients across Wales in early 2020 - some in the early hours. Most were calls reporting a death. I couldn't take it.

In 2020 I moved to Birmingham to work in a Medium Secure CAMHS inpatient unit, which happened to be a COVID-19 outbreak site. The combination of daily threats of violence, COVID-19 and having colleagues die, in July 2021 it became too much and I tried to kill myself.

I left my job, my flat and my life in Birmingham to move back home to Wales and recoup with my mother.

I am not sure when I can go back into nursing. At the moment I'm living day-to-day. Living on Universal Credit is demoralising, but I am thankful to be alive.
