Help Rosa and her four kids

Donation protected
My name is Paola Mendoza.  I am a storyteller and activist. On November 1st I traveled to Mexico to document the stories of the people in the caravan.

One of the first people I met on the caravan was Rosa. I was amazed at her strength. But it was her bravery to join the caravan alone with her 4 kids that truly inspired me. Out of the 7k refugees in the caravan, Rosa was not supposed to be the one to make to the United States to begin her asylum process. A single mother of four children was not supposed to be able to walk 2,500 miles. Her four month old baby got so sick he ended up in the hospital for three days but even this huge set back would not stop this determined woman. Somehow Rosa accomplished the impossible.

Rosa spent many days in a detention center in the United States but was finally released on Dec 15th. She was released to a wonderful woman that has agreed to sponsor her throughout her asylum process.

While Rosa's asylum case is very strong, the reality is United States grants asylum to a very lucky few.  As Rosa navigates this uncertain process we are hoping to make her life a little more comfortable. The money raised for Rosa and her children will go towards her basic needs, food, clothes, school supplies and just basic living expenses.

I hope that you can show your support of this incredible woman by donating what you can.

Blessed be the refugees.

Here is more info about Rosa's sponsor:

Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist church welcomed Rosa and her four children. The congregation led by Senior Minister Rev. Lissa Gundlach will be sponsoring this family as they settle and begin the asylum seeking process. “As we learned of Rosa’s story, we were moved by our compassion to welcome this family. Because love has no borders, we have to let our hearts lead us,” said Rev. Gundlach. An incredible network of generous people and community partners have already stepped up to help. Medical care will be provided by Young and Healthy, and her case will be taken on by Immigrant Defenders Law Center.  In the spirit of radical hospitality, proudly join a network of Unitarian Universalist congregations and people of faith responding to the call to sponsor asylum seekers.
