WE ARE A GROUP OF DEVOTED FRIENDS FIGHTING A CRITICAL MISSION ON BEHALF OF OUR BELOVED SARAH HUGHES!

Thank you for taking a moment to read Sarah's "GoFundMe" campaign and spreading the word throughout our community and beyond! We all need to continuously lift Sarah and her family up with prayer, positive thoughts, and generosity.

WE ALL HAVE

The attending physician stated to both Sarah and her mother,  "IT IS AN ABSOLUTE MIRACLE THIS LADY IS STILL ALIVE"!

Many, Many Thanks from Sarah’s Admin-Friends,

Initially, Sarah was not on board with our "GoFundMe" campaign suggestion. After several deep and meaningful discussions, Sarah graciously agreed to let us create a "GoFundMe" campaign in her honor.

We are determined to help relieve Sarah in any way possible as she continues to lie in bed daily, wrapped in a neck and back brace, waiting for unknown answers, and wondering when her excruciating pain will subside.

There comes a time in a person's life when you must let go and let the people who love you the most step in and ease your burdens. As we all know, Sarah would spearhead the same campaign for all those that she loves dearly and probably for a complete stranger!

In the blink of an eye, Sarah could have been taken from this world, leaving behind her seven-year-old daughter Ava, who undoubtedly is THE LOVE OF SARAH'S LIFE.

Ava affectionately refers to Sarah as "Mum-Mum," and Sarah affectionally refers to Ava as "Little Mama!"

Sarah created this sweet VIDEO one week before her accident. Her and Ava are out out-door enthusiast, to say the least, and relished every moment of their 2021 Summer Vacation! "COVER ME IN SUNSHINE" By Pink

THE NEAR-FATAL CAR ACCIDENT THAT NEARLY TOOK SARAH’S LIFE IN AN INSTANT:

Around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021, Sarah, a 44-year-old native Midlander, dropped her daughter off at a summer day camp. As she was walking back to her car, she started to feel dizzy, shaky, and disoriented. With the knowledge that four of her family members were recently diagnosed with COVID-19, Sarah texted her ex-husband, Everett W. Gray. She informed him of her symptoms and assured him she would get tested immediately, especially for their daughter's sake. Sarah and Everett have always maintained a friendly relationship and are blessed to co-parent their daughter cohesively.

Within four minutes, Sarah obviously "under-corrected," as she slowly turned right onto Scharbauer Dr., where her front left-hand driver's side wheel hit the left-hand curb on Scharbauer Dr., which contains an infamous center ditch. As her Suburban flew up into the air and then thankfully, Sarah's last memory was faintly observing her automobile nose-dive into a ditch and later informed she slammed into a pole located near the drivers' side door.

Thankfully, Sarah completely lost consciousness before the massive impact. Once the paramedics arrived, the "Jaws-of-Life" were used to dislodge her body from the driver-side door to extract Sarah's body from the automobile and rushed to Midland Memorial Hospital.

Several tests were conducted, including one MRI, two CAT scans, and two head scans. Medications were also administered, such as pain and anti-seizure medication. Sarah regained full consciousness while in the E.R. The attending physician stated to both Sarah and her mother,  "IT IS AN ABSOLUTE MIRACLE THIS LADY IS STILL ALIVE"!

SARAH’S EXTERNAL WOUNDS DON’T HOLD A CANDLE TO THE INTERNAL DAMAGE:

IMMEDIATE DIAGNOSIS WHILE TREATED IN THE E.R. WERE AS FOLLOWS:

Promptly diagnosed with COVID-19 and transported to the COVID-19 unit. The medical team predicted she either passed out and suffered a mini-stroke because of the rapid onset fever caused by COVID-19 or due to the impact of the crash itself.

Her first two head scans revealed brain bleeding on the right side of her scalp from where her skull crashed into the driver-side window. Shrapnel of window glass filled Sarah's left arm, and 18-stitches were required. She received additional stitches on her left shoulder, left cheek, and right ring finger.

The first MRI revealed a minor bruised spinal cord (thankfully not life-threatening) and a possible concussion, which will all be confirmed the week of July 16-20, 2021, when Sarah receives a follow-up MRI and CAT Scan for the above diagnosis', along with the other diagnosis listed below.

DIAGNOSED INTERNAL DAMAGE IS AS FOLLOWS:

• Broken clavicle

• Fracture of the transverse process of cervical vertebra

• Subarachnoid hemorrhaging in areas

• Bruising to the brain resulting in either a concussion, contusion, or skull fracture

• One Punctured lung

• Two broken ribs

• Laceration to her left shoulder

• Small fracture to her collarbone

FOLLOW-UP CARE & POSSIBLE IMPENDING SURGERY:

Sarah will receive an additional MRI & CAT scan in two weeks. Her Neurologist will determine if her broken neck (clavicle) is healing on its own or if she will need surgery to repair further damage. Her Neurologist will also assess her brain bleeding as well and take other action if required. Sarah will endure a multitude of further testing, rehab, and physical therapy soon.

Sarah's recovery will not be easy and will take ample time to return to 100%. At this point, there is no way to guestimate what her final monetary expenses will total, but between the following:

  • Possible impending surgery to align the broken bones in her clavicle.
  • Several follow-up consultations with her Neurologist and other specialists
  • Further medications and special equipment to accommodate while she is in the process of healing
  • Current and future hospital visits and overnight trips
  • General family & living expenses, including general monthly necessities, utilities, gasoline, food, clothing, Insurance, taxes, needed after-school care, etc.
  • Loss of wages and benefits
  • Physical/occupational rehabilitation
  • Mental/emotional health therapy to cope with her trauma
  • Eventually purchasing a newer used automobile
  • Caring for two dogs and a highly energetic seven-year-old daughter

ONCE ALL IS SAID AND DONE, WE FEEL CONFIDENT THAT HER FINAL MONETARY AMOUNT DUE WILL INEVITABLY ACCRUE TO WELL OVER $200,000.

THE GOOD NEWS & THE NOT SO GOOD NEWS:

Unquestionably, Sarah’s suburban was immediately totaled but thankfully was fully covered by her auto insurance. Unfortunately, her previous medical insurance lapsed several months ago. However, Sarah was active in the process of obtaining a new policy but did not prevail pre-accident.

WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?
HEALING IS ROOTED IN THE DEEPEST OF LOVE & WE ARE HERE TO FIGHT!

It’s hard to grasp how much people want to help during times of frightening uncertainty, especially when you are not the one suffering. Countless friends and family members have encouraged Sarah to share details regarding her tragic accident. Sarah has endured her fair share of loss and trauma over the past several years. We all know she has been through a lot in her life, but we also know she fights like a champion! AS HER FRIENDS & LOVED ONES...We are 100% dedicating ourselves to the process of assisting our dear friend and returning her to the healthy, vibrant lady we know and love. More importantly, regain her total health and mental/physical restoration.

OTHER INTERESTING & POSSIBLY UNKNOWN FACTS ABOUT SARAH:

She began to substitute teach the second semester of 2021, never imagining she would develop a passion for teaching in underprivileged elementary public schools. She recently started the process of obtaining her full-teaching certificate.

She has always exuded a passion for the arts and even graduated early from Lee High School, with the ambition to attend an actors conservatory in Dallas, TX, where she obtained her A.A. in Performing Arts. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles, CA, to pursue acting & writing. You can even spot her in a small role in the original movie, “Legally Blonde.”  But if you blink, you will miss her major motion picture debut!

Once returning to Texas, Sarah decided to obtain her Real Estate License. She worked for Keller Williams in Midland. During that time, she and her then husband adopted their precious three-week-old daughter. Both Sarah and Everett decided becoming a stay-at-home-mom was the best option for their family. But during those years, Sarah always continued to pursue side ventures such as flipping houses and even formed a film production company, PressOn Productions, with two other film producers in Midland, TX, Janice Henry & Josh Brown.

Together, PressOn Productions produced a 10-part children’s series titled Hurleyville. This series taught children about the 10-Commandments in a humorous, relatable format. Hurleyville was eventually distributed in major retail chains, including Lifeway and Mardel Christian Stores, across the United States.

FINAL NOTE, WHY DO WE LOVE HER MORE THAN WORDS:

•  HER INFECTIOUS LAUGH & TWISTED SENSE OF HUMOR can and will brighten anyone's day!
•  She is quite simply, hands down, a one-of-a-kind!
•  She is loyal and confidential to the core. Her friends and family can trust her with their life.
•  She has a huge heart for people an uncanny ability to forgive even the worst offenders!
•  More than anything, she is the FIRST TO ADMIT SHE IS FAR FROM PERFECT.
•  Sarah is fully aware of how bullheaded she is at times and can (sometimes) talk WAY TOO MUCH!! HaHa!
•  She has deep convictions and is always the first to apologize when she knows she is genuinely in the wrong.

IN CONCLUSION....

We desperately want to help ease any further emotional, physical, and financial burden Sarah will inevitably endure in the following months ahead. WE CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!
