Help Sharon Latham with Bills & Moving

My mom, Sharon, became partially paralyzed in January 2020 after a stroke. She and my stepdad did the best they could with help from family and home health care to stay in their home as long as possible. She needs daily care for dressing, transferring, etc., and home health care had become increasingly scarce. In March, they made the difficult decision to move into assisted living so that she could get the daily care and assistance she needed.

Sadly, my stepdad, Hugh, unexpectedly passed away on July 8. She will not be able to afford to stay where she is so we are needing to get her moved to a new facility as soon as possible. The costs associated with the move are growing and we would be grateful for any help we receive.

Donations will be used to pay for the following immediate needs:

Hugh served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was fortunate to receive compensation from Veterans Affairs. Mom will continue to receive a portion of his compensation but it will take some time before we know what the amount will be and when she will beginning receiving it. There was a small life insurance policy that will cover the funeral expenses but it could take several months for her to receive any funds that may be left over. Because she is a survivor of a Veteran, there are some great programs that will also assist her with her finances, but we don't know when they will be approved for her to begin receiving aid. She will eventually begin receiving a portion of his social security but as with everything else, we don't know when that will start.

We are confident that she will be well taken care of at the new facility and will eventually be financially secure. But in the meantime, she and our family are struggling with getting her moved and taken care of through the next month while we wait for things to get ironed out.
