Jim Mitchell- Veteran with pancreatic cancer.

Donation protected
James (Jim) Mitchell was born in Charleston, WV and was raised in Spencer, WV where he graduated from Spencer High School in 1990. After High School Jim joined the Army with the 101st Airborne Division. Jim earned many ribbons and badges such as, Sharpshooter Badge M16 Rifle, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Badge Hand Grenade, National Defense Service Medal and more.

After the Army, Jim started working as a Heavy Equipment Operator where he met his wife Amanda in 2009. Jim and Amanda married June 13, 2011 and have been residents of Morgantown, WV since.

Jim and Amanda became 1st time homeowners last year, July 22, 2022 this is also Jim's birthday as well. Jim & Amanda signed papers and were able to move in to their new home.

Unfortunately for Jim's next birthday July 22, 2023, Jim spent 8 days in the hospital and on his birthday, 7/22/2023 Jim and Amanda were told that Jim has pancreatic cancer. Jim has a 5cm mass in the head & body of the pancreas. The tumor was pressing on his bile duct and they had to perform a ERCP Procedure to open the bile duct back up. The doctors have started Jim on 2 types of chemo, Abraxane and Gemzar doing 3 weeks on and one week off.

Jim has worked his entire life and as for any man, the toll this takes on a person that is the provider, the strong one, the "man of the house" and in a blink of an eye it all changed. Jim and his wife have come so far, and with Jim not being able to work for the first time in his life, we have started a Go Fund Me to help our Veteran who has helped us.

It's hard to try to understand how much life can change in a blink of an eye. We went from a 2 person income to one person's income overnight. The emotions, the feelings, the anxiety, the fear of losing your loved one, your home and everything you own.

Amanda works 60-75 hours a week as it is, but being salary based, we all know how that works.

They need our help! Our Veteran has helped us and was there for us, now lets be there for him. All donations will be given to Jim & Amanda for help with prescriptions, mortgage, utilities, gas, food etc..

We have applied for SSD for Jim but it's a waiting game now. The cost of co-pays for medications, Dr. visits, gas to get back and forth to all the Dr's. appts. and SSD is nothing but a waiting game. 6-8 months they say. FYI - a person will lose everything they have by then. Jim worked his entire life, and served his country, why is there not more help for our Veterans? Jim has contacted the VA to no avail. Jim has also contacted DHHR, our mortgage company and how is there no help???

It's sad that our veterans sacrificed so much for the people, but the government can't even take care of them when they are in a horrible situation.

I pray that one day he is better, and that the cancer is gone and I can help others how they have helped us during this time. Rather it takes a Go Fund Me account, holding events at my store, I'll do whatever it takes for us not to lose our home and everything we own. We know you are there God, guide us by your loving hands and God bless anyone that has donated. Words can not even explain what a blessing it is.
