Help Teigan Rassat Kick Cancer to the Curb
Donation protected
Our nephew Teigan is a junior in high school. He loves to sing in the school choir, play disc golf (when he isn’t losing his discs in the woods), and recently got his driver's license. Teigan was excited to start his second year of wrestling on the Sumner Spartans varsity team, when his world was turned upside down after an unexpected finding and diagnosis of Osteosarcoma. He is now facing a long road of treatment with the possibility of losing his leg.
In October, Teigan went on a hike and overnight campout. After returning, he was extremely sore and assumed it was a continuation of an old injury from previous months. The following week he went to his first wrestling practice of the season and was unable to run and eventually unable to walk on his right leg. His parents scheduled an appointment with a sports medicine doctor, and it was recommended that he use crutches and rest for a couple of weeks. As those weeks went on, the pain worsened, and he was scheduled for an x-ray, where they found a large tumor in his right tibia. After blood tests, an MRI, and a biopsy, it was determined that Teigan has Osteosarcoma. We are still waiting on the final results from the biopsy and PET scan to see if it has spread to other parts of his body.
As of now, Teigan is looking at about 30 weeks of chemotherapy treatments. His treatment schedule will be one day of chemo, a 1-week break, and then a 3-4 day chemo treatment where he will need to stay overnight at the hospital. This schedule will be repeated throughout the entirety of his treatment. After 2-3 months of chemotherapy, he will have surgery to remove the tumor. The best outlook for this surgery is to remove the affected bone and reconstruct it. There is a possibility that amputation will be needed.
Even with insurance, Teigan's recovery will be very long and expensive. The funds donated here will help assist him with his journey, pay for chemotherapy treatments, hospital stays, medications, reconstructive surgery, physical therapy, and fertility storage in case chemo impacts his ability to have children in the future.
Please give what you can. No donation is too small. If you prefer to donate through Venmo, an account has been created for him @toughasteigan
