Help Us Host the Somalis United Through Running Event

On May 4th, 2024, my wife Halima Ibrahim, and I, Ahmed Muhumed, united in marriage. Halima is from Kenya's Northern Frontier Province, and I am from Ethiopia's Somali Region. Our marriage symbolizes the unity of the Somali people who share language, culture, and faith despite being divided by colonial boundaries and civil conflict. This December we will be visiting our homelands as part of our honeymoon. To celebrate our shared heritage and symbolically bridge the gap between our communities, we are organizing a Road Race that brings together Elite Somali Athletes from five major regions: Somalia, Somaliland, the Somali State of Ethiopia, Kenya’s Northern Frontier District, and Djibouti. This race will take place in Ahmed’s hometown, Jijiga, Somali Region of Ethiopia on December 21, 2024. Running has brought me so much growth and helped me form valuable relationships and friendships so I want to share that positive impact with my Somali communities.
To respect the region’s political and social practices, we decided to have a competition between major cities instead of countries–Mogadishu, Hargaisa, Djibouti, Jigjiga, and Garissa. Through merit, we have chosen 5 elite athletes from each region for a total of 25 male athletes, competing in a 5k race. Additionally, 10 Elite Female athletes have been registered across regions and will compete in a 3k race. But both races as well as the youth mile race (open for participants 15 and under) will be open to other competitors.
Our Goal: $8,400
We need your support to make this event a success. Your generous contributions will help cover the following key aspects:

Why Your Support Matters
Your support will help us celebrate athletic excellence and foster unity among Somali communities. Each contribution, regardless of its size, brings us closer to realizing this goal and exposing the sport of running to many Somali Youth. As this is our way of giving back, we believe that through this race we can show people that running and sports are powerful ways through which people can be united and transcend political and national boundaries.
