Help Us Provide Clean Water to Our Community
In February 2021 a massive winter storm gripped huge sections of the United States, including the entire state of Texas. Due to state authorities neglecting our infrastructure for many years, we experienced widespread power failure and, at least in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, a loss of clean, potable water. Many people were without power for days on end, and were told during that time that they must boil their water before using it. With no electricity and in many cases an inability to receive natural gas to operate their stoves and heaters, this combination of factors left millions of Texans completely without clean water for days and store shelves cleaned out.
In response to this need, we in the DFW chapter of the SRA have spent many hours trying to determining how we can help in this situation. After much deliberation and planning, we are launching this fundraiser to purchase equipment to transport clean, potable water to communities in need during disasters.
The equipment we hope to purchase with these funds includes:
- two water tank trailers,
- two water purification systems,
- water pump, and
- a number of additional quality-of-life items to help the communities we will serve with the above equipment.
After this program is off the ground and we have active experience delivering this aid to our neighbors, we hope to be able to help other chapters recreate this system to aid their communities as well.
