Our beloved Gordito, Abuelo, and Nonno - Franco Testini - recently passed away after a long battle with stomach cancer and other health issues. The man had many passions, including Italian soccer, giving the whole neighborhood haircuts, loving his family, and (most importantly) caring for the love of his life - Ana Cristina Testini. <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/53457850_1608587902306953_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="53457850_1608587902306953_r.jpeg" /> Sadly, our Abuela/Nonna has Alzheimer's Disease and Franco was her primary support, giving her everything he had as long as he possibly was able. As we gathered to mourn and celebrate his life, our attention turned to his life's passion: caring for the woman that he loved so dearly. We poured over their pensions and bank accounts and found that we are woefully short of the resources needed to ensure she has the proper, specialized care to support her. While we draw some comfort from the fact that Ana's Alzheimer's is advanced enough that she is unaware of his passing and the difficult situation facing us, we need help.  The family is coming together to try to bridge the gap in the funds needed for round-the-clock care for my grandmother. She is on a waitlist for a long-term care facility in Canada, but unfortunately we are unable to afford the cost of care that would cover her specialized needs as her Alzheimer's progresses. Our long-term goal is to secure enough funds in order to ensure that her final act is supportive and comfortable in her condition. <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/53457850_1608588120857803_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="53457850_1608588120857803_r.jpeg" /> In the short term, her daughter (Marisol Rengel) has brought her back to The States to care for her from her home. A tall task, but sadly the best option until there is an opening in a long-term facility. As her memory continues to fade, we are grateful that her daughter will be with her to support her as much as she can. Marisol has a full-time job, however, and Ana will require costly medical assistance during weekdays. It would mean the world to the family to be able to keep Ana comfortable and make sure she has the care that she needs. Thank you so much for all your support.
