Help Volunteers give Assistance to Asylum Seekers
Donation protected
We are a group of young Chicagoans who stand together to support those who seek refuge and opportunity at our borders.
Find us at our InLakesh Chicago Facebook Page
Our goals are to:
1. Go to the border and donate our professional services with Good Neighbor Settlement House
2. Come home and share what we have seen
3. Forge relationships with local organizers, activists and organizations that directly work with asylum seekers in Brownsville, Texas
4. Fundraise for to support GNSH's efforts to provide aid and relief to asylum seekers
UPDATE: In order to make the biggest impact with your help and support, any funds we raise after we reach a $500 goal, will go directly to GNSH. We hope to raise $3500 to support the efforts of GNSH. $500 will go towards helping 3 volunteers travel to GNSH to donate professional services which have never been offered to asylum seekers. (See Inlakesh Storytelling and Yoga event below)
We have also planned three additional fundraisers to raise money and increase awareness and advocacy of our efforts and the inhumane conditions being experienced by asylum seekers
1. Storytelling and Yoga.
Inlakesh Chicago’s Storytelling and Yoga initiative is aimed at providing immigrants and refugees with the tools needed to tell their story at the Good Neighbor Settlement House in Texas. We will do this in a holistic, trauma-informed way by using storytelling techniques and the comforting and grounding benefits of yoga. Your donation will help 3 volunteers donate their professional services on August 24-25 at GNSH to provide asylum seekers tools and coping skills to tell their migration story in there petition for asylum before a judge. See Inlakesh Storytelling and Yoga eventbrite for more details.
2. Car Wash Fundraiser
We will be holding a carwash at Thomas Kelly High School located at 4136 S California Ave, Chicago, IL 60632 on Saturday August 3rd. Click Car Wash Fundraiser for more details.
3. Fundraiser Party at 1213 Center
We will be celebrating all the efforts of our community and organizers as well as relating successes and updates of the situation at the border. This fundraiser will be held on Saturday August 10, 2019. More details and event page to come!
Inlakesh Chicago would like to raise all funds to kick off our movement by August 11th. This effort is one we are all passionate and feel strongly about because it hits extremely close to home. As community organizers, immigrants, and children of immigrants, we know the struggle all too well. It is impossible for us to sit back and hope for the best. We believe that the only way to change our future is to take action together. Your help and on-going support will be changing the lives of many asylum seekers and begin the healing process of intergenerational trauma for our communities.
Thank You for all of your help and support!
In Lak’ech
Tú eres mi otro yo. You are my other me.
Si te hago daño a ti, If I do harm to you,
Me hago daño a mi mismo. I do harm to myself.
Si te amo y respeto, If I love and respect you,
Me amo y respeto yo. I love and respect myself.
