My name is Desi Hall, and against all odds I am here. I am a proud black trans woman born and raised in the Deep South. In just two months I will be graduating from college. After that I am moving to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt Divinity School. We all know that moving to a new city is not cheap, and in order to make the move happen I need your help!
The past 4 years I have juggled medically transitioning, working, and being a student. In these 4 years I have lost family members, friends, and opportunities because I made the decision to live in my truth. During that time I have also accomplished so much in spite of the opposition I have faced. I have assisted in creating policy to protect girls in our local school district from sexual assault. I have maintained my 3.5 GPA, became the first openly trans Hess Fellow, Resident Life Assistant, and soon to be graduate of my institution. Yes, I will be the first openly trans graduate of my institution.
I have accomplished so much under the worse circumstances one could be given. However, this is just the beginning of my journey into greatness.The next part of my journey is taking me to Vanderbilt Divinity School where I will earn my master of divinity. A move to a new city is not a cheap one especially when you are financing the entire thing on your own.
This is where you come in. I need your help to get to Nashville and to have some stability when I get there. The funds that I am raising will cover a housing deposit, a first month's rent, a few pieces of furniture, and utilities. After I graduate in May I plan to move to Nashville shortly after since there is not really anywhere else for me to go.
This support will mean safety and security for me as I enter a new chapter of my life. Black Trans Women face job and housing discrimination pretty much everywhere in this country. This money will mean that I will be able to move safely and put all of my efforts into finding and securing a job. It will also mean the difference between barely surviving in a new place to me having a decent quality of life. Your support means everything. Thank you.
